5. "Suggestions to the Women Voters of Rhode Island," c.1920

In 1887, Rhode Island became the first eastern state to vote on a women’s suffrage referendum, which failed to pass.  Rhode Island women were granted the right to vote in presidential elections in 1917, but acquired full suffrage only when the nineteenth amendment was passed in 1920.
